This anthology of articles concerns the past and the present of social movements in Finland. The authors sketch the activity of the movements as a combination of continuity on the one hand and changes and breaks on the other. For instance one article takes under examination the diversity of the women's movements in Finland and the other Scandinavian countries and concentrates especially on the role of the so-called new women's movement as a societal actor. The author discusses extensively the special characteristics of the Nordic women's movements e.g. through the concept of state-feminism.
