An article-based report of survey results within the "Finnish Local Government 2004" -project, the book concentrates on the local associations and their relations with the authorities of the municipalities. The authors present a theoretical review on the study of interest mediation of the third sector organisations and the municipal interest groups. They also consider the resources of the local associations - their members and their degree of mobilisation as well as their financial sources. Methods of political influence, such as lobbying, are examined, and the role of the associations in the municipal elections is evaluated through measuring their participation in electoral campaigns. The book presents interesting insights into the role of the associations as third sector actors in the municipalities and their participation in the municipal service production.
